Indra Lohani

Passes away 8:46am on Jan. 16. 2009

Supreme Court Advocate Indra Lohani, 41, passed away Friday evening after fainting earlier in the day.

He was brought dead at Norvic International Hospital in Kathmandu at 8:10 p.m., said Dr Sudhanshu KC, one of the doctors at the hospital. There were no signs of external injuries on Lohanis body, according to KC. Lohani was suffering from a liver condition medically known as fatty liver, KC said. There are chances that Lohani might have suffered a heart attack, he added.

The lawyer was a popular host of a talk show called Bahas on Kantipur Television.

Dr KC and another doctor at Norvic, Bharat Rawat, had treated Lohani in the past. He had complained of heaviness in the chest some three months ago, Dr KC said. The doctors performed angiography and nothing serious was detected then. Lohani was taking some anti-depressant medicines too, according to the doctor.

Lohani’s younger brother Bheshraj told our correspondent Kiran Chapagain that Lohani had taken his four-year-old daughter for an outing to Guheswori temple at 5 p.m. He had complained of discomfort at the temple and had fainted for a while. After he regained consciousness, he asked locals to drop him at home. He passed away while being rushed from his house to the hospital. Lohani was a blood pressure patient, Bheshraj said.

Bheshraj said that no post-mortem would be done and the last rites would be performed at Pashupati Aryaghat at 11 a.m.

Lohani is survived by his wife and two daughters.
